(#7) Writing Proposals

Proposals will no longer be group projects. I have two options for you.

Option 1: Use the item from your Tech Descr as the innovation that solves a problem. Your written Tech Descr will serve as the basis for the Tech Descr section of the proposal. You will need to figure out what problem your item solves. Remember that your problem and solution need to make sense in the real world. If, in your view, your item doesn’t naturally solve a problem, you may consider a new or different use for your item to solve a problem or propose an innovation to your item that would allow it to solve a problem.

Option 2: You may propose a different project or assignment altogether. Let your engineering imagination run wild. The project must have the same scope as option 1. Here are some examples: write an RFP, conduct an actual Lab or simulation and write a lab report, create a 15-30 min. education video on some engineering topic with scripts, props, etc.

For this discussion:

1. Read Tech Comm- Writing Proposals.pdf & Engineering Design Reports (pgs. 23-28) of the BE Technical Writing Guide. In one to three sentences, share which option you have selected and your problem and solution.

2. Then, give any 2 responses.  Be sure to name the document to which you are referring.

  • What important thing have you learned from either reading?
  • What question(s) do you have?
  • How do you plan to use this information in your proposal/project?

3. In your responses to at least 3 students who are not from your peer group, make suggestions, ask genuine questions, answer questions they may have about the readings or about their proposals. Be sure to return to those threads to complete the discussions.

Remember, this entire process is public so that you can learn from and support one another. Let’s take advantage of this opportunity by responding thoughtfully to one another.

Finally, for this discussion, you must create your thread before you can see other student’s threads.
